(Here is something i wrote a little while back, just wanted to post it up and hear your thoughts…)
Prophetic message is progressive
i. Its transforms gradually as changes take place in history
ii. Bound together by one spirit and revealing one revelation.
iii. We’re moving along on a continuum and there is an end…
This is a little part of my notes from my Hebrew Prophets class and as I was studying for my test I couldn’t help but stop here and think about this, and I just wanted to share my thoughts with you all…
First of all it is important to note that God is always the main figure of the prophetic message (This is known as Theocentric)
Every prophet’s message was about God and how much humans need God and salvation. It’s not about humans, it’s about God! Even when you read the prophetic judgments against Israel or Judah, there is always a promise of salvation. How beautiful it is to know that even though God’s people were screwing up big time and turned to idol worship…God was still faithful.
Isn’t it interesting that while God’s people were idolaters, they were committing adultery against God? As the covenant people they were supposed to remain faithful to God and His commands and in return they would be God’s adopted children and they would be protected, secure, and peaceful. This was very much a covenant relationship like marriage. If a married person lies with another person whom is not their spouse, they are adulterous, so in the same sense if a believer turns to other “gods”, they are adulterous in their covenant relationship with God.
But what blows my mind while I read the prophetic books is that while God’s people commit adultery against God over and over again, (and God does definitely judge them), He is STILL faithful to His people even though they are not faithful to Him.
This is why the book of Hosea is sooo powerful and mind-bottling. God tells His prophet to marry a woman that will be unfaithful to him. While she continues to be unfaithful to him God tells his prophet Hosea to go get her and take her as his wife once more. Basically, God tells him to act completely normal with her as if she didn’t do anything wrong. This always makes my jaw drop every time I read this book but the reason is because this shows in a very practical and unimaginable way of how Great God’s love is for us.
When you read Hosea you look down on the woman not realizing that YOU ARE THAT WOMAN! You ARE the one who is cheating on God when you don’t keep His commands and when you break that covenant relationship with Him. HE is the one who comes after you like a faithful Husband and takes you back in as if you never did anything. Man, that is so amazing.
But going back to my notes, I couldn’t stop thinking about the third point, that we are all moving along on a continuum and there IS AN END! Think about it, we are just living our lives every day not realizing that we are part of major history and that God is still present in our days. He’s looking at the world the same way He always has and He is taking EVERYTHING we do into account. We are Responsible for EVERYTHING that we do and let me tell you friends, there IS AN END!
A day will come when everything you see will cease to exist. We are part of God’s story…what have YOU done with YOUR LIFE? Do you get distracted by the appearance of this world that you forget what’s important? I was thinking about the Matrix and I couldn’t help but think that WOW, that movie was really right on. You know why? Because it shows this world as an illusion and any material gain you accumulate over time is really kind of like a hologram, it’s not real. Would You spend your WHOLE LIFE striving for something that isn’t real?
The choice is yours, and the end will come, whether it is Christ coming back to take us all up or whether you die suddenly and unexpectedly…What have you done with your life? Have you stored up treasures on earth or monopoly money here on earth? Truly, what does it profit a human to gain the whole world and yet forfeit their own Soul?
I’m not saying that we don’t need money, it is so good to not have to live paycheck to paycheck and it is such a hassle to have to worry about money. So don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t work or earn wages for our daily efforts; it is important and we need it to survive. If you also want to gain lots of money to help others in major ways then go for it, there’s nothing wrong with it.
My point is, the end will come and I want you to be sure that you remember this throughout your days. Don’t get so caught up with this illusion that you forget what’s real! God is real and He is faithful to you, I hope you are faithful to Him. He Loves you, I hope you love Him too. God Bless
